DON’T GET DISTRACTED BY YOUR COMPETITION

Beating Competition

The only way to beat the competition is to stop trying to beat the competition. Too many companies focus their business strategy on copying what the competition does rather than making their own headway.

In doing that they forget who they are, why they exist, and what they are trying to do. Benchmarking yourself against the competition is just saying ‘we want to be as crap as you.’

Companies are still building over complicated offerings that miss the key things valued by most people and all in the name of that 20th century practice of competition.

Should I see what they're doing at all?

Yes, it’s important to know what your nearest rivals are doing, what they are creating and who they are doing business with but don’t let it distract you from your own game, your own fight and your own innovation.

Don’t build your strengths around their weaknesses. Do your own thing. Differentiation is built on being amazing, creating real value and doing the remarkable in places competition isn’t.

Don’t build your organisations future on what your competitors are doing but what your customers are doing.
